Details & Itinerary:
Depart from our hostel at 8:30am it takes around 3-hours to get to the entrance of Jinshanling Great Wall. It takes an average of 3.5 hours to cross through 22 ancient towers, on rugged up and down mountain inclines from Jinshanling to Simatai West What a challenging but amazing experience it makes!

Because of the terrain, the last 1.8 miles to Simatai Great Wall was closed by the local government. However, we take you right up to the west edge of Simatai Great Wall. The whole trip of hiking is approximately 3.7 miles.

As the most popular hiking trip of Great Wall around Beijing, it will show you both Jinshanling Great Wall and west Simatai Great Wall sections within 3 hours. Due to the recent closure of Simatai section, we cannot walk through all the way to Simatai. We will walk from Jinshanling Great Wall eastward to Simatai West, to the 22nd tower. You can also take the cable car to go directly from the 1st tower to the 16th tower and then hike the rest, just that you need to pay the cable car ticket by yourself.

It is the best place for keen photographers along the wall. Regarding fitness it is a medium-level hiking for all ages. This section offers arguably the finest hiking anywhere on the Great Wall. It is extremely photogenic, with over 15 watch-towers, and steep gradients that give constantly changing perspectives and wide, open views. There is fascinating variety in the watch-towers. This section of the wall is wild, ruined, preserved and original. On a clear day, it is difficult to fail to take good photographs here. Over 50,000 of our former guests would agree, we are taking you to the best parts of the Great Wall (Jinshanling Great Wall). Unlike other sections of the wall that are crowded with tourists and vendors, this section of the Great Wall is rather tranquil, and the stones that make up the ruins are hundreds of years old, most of which even being in their original condition. The views are some of the most breathtaking ones that you'll see all around China. Our guides are carefully selected, highly trained to be friendly and patient travel companions. After this adventurous day, please sit back and relax in our air-con vehicle to transfer you back to Beijing.

Notes:
1. There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Jinshanling Great Wall. Please prepare before hiking and always take toilet paper with you;
2. Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 17:00 and 18:00 pm;
3. As responsible travelers, we “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprint”.

We are not the cheapest one. If you make comparison of the prices offered by different travel agencies, you might find that there are many cheaper ones existing. But we offer what you need. We DON'T take you to any tourist shop or jade factory, obliging you to buy fake products at extremely high prices, taking you 2 or 3 hours; we promise that you have all the proper time enjoying the tour, the food, the scenery, the shows, etc., except necessary hours on the vehicle.

We are the FINAL OPERATOR of this tour. We organize and supervise the whole process of it. If you stay at some other hostels in the neighborhood and book the same tour from them, they could be our clients and not the real operator, they could finally arrange you to different places as they likely plan because they normally have several supplying companies operating different tours.

Why are we better?
1. Absolutely NO shopping stop;
2. Less crowded, more relaxed;
3. Recommended by Lonely Planet (China) at page 91, 13th Edition;
4. More than 50,000 previous visitors agree, this is the best Great Wall hike.
5. We are the FINAL OPERATOR of this tour. We organize and supervise the whole process of it. If you stay at some other hostels in the neighborhood and book the tour from them, they could be our clients and not the real tour operator, they could finally arrange you to different places as they likely plan because they normally have several supplying companies operating different tours.

    I have visited Mutianyu and Badalin and for me this is the best part of the Great Wall I climbed. It is further away from Beijing than other parts of the wall yet totally worth it. First because it\'s not crowded and you can feel literally alone on this wall. Second it\'s not fully refurbished so it looks more ancient and typical. Finally it\'s a really challenging hike, some parts are insane and you really wonder how they managed to build it. Takes up the whole day and you wouldn\'t be able to visit other attractions like the Ming Tombs if you would go to Badalin but i don\'t regret having had come all the way to Jinshanling.

    I booked my Great Wall hike through Downtown Backpacker\'s Hostel because I they took a pretty independent approach for this excursion. I you want a tour guide that leads a group around with a flag and a megaphone, this is not for you. You don\'t really need a guide to see things around Beijing, just read up on the sites you are going to see online. This hike was $54 USD (which I was able to pay for in advance using Paypal). It included the bus trip (2 1/2-3 hrs each way), a tour group leader,who gave a brief summary to familiarize everyone with the hike, entrance fee, a bottle of water, and bus ride back (bring your own lunch). It take the entire day to do this 6km hike (including transportation time). I stayed at Peking Youth Hostel (5 min walk away), so this was very convenient from that respect as well. Since the Great Wall was the highlight of my trip to Beijing, I chose this more remote location to hike and I\'m glad I did. I met some tourist from Belgium who told me the Badaling section was so smoggy they didn\'t see much of the Great Wall. There were very little tourists hiking this section, and the views are spectacular. This is a bit strenuous, lots of stairs up and down. It was in the 80s and humid in May, so wear a hat, sunscreen/sunshirt. There were spots all along the way that sold snacks and water/drinks. Avoid the women that try to walk alongside you and become your \"tour guide\", they will want to charge you for your services or try and sell you books.

    Hiking Jin Shan Ling Booked a tour with Beijing Downtown backpackers, easy to arrange on their web-site, no need to pay until we turn up at 08:30. Had to phone to reconfirm our place before 18:00 the day before. Turned up at 08:15 and paid the man in the hostel 280 RMB pp. This cost included the entrance cost to the Wall but not the cable car if you chose this option. No food is given so take some lunch yourself. Small mini bus left on time-but then stopped after 10 minutes to pick up others. We were on the road again before 09:00. We did stop for petrol and a \"bathroom\" stop after only 15 minutes but otherwise a relatively easy trip. The guide gave us a brief intro to the history of the wall and details of how the day would go later into the trip. Basically they would drop us off at the start but wait for an hour there in case anyone found the going too tough and decided to cut short their trip by using the path at Tower 5 or getting the cable car back from tower 10. The bus would then go off to the pickup point and wait until about 4 hours after the start (15:00) before leaving. Everyone should be Ok to get back to the bus by then. We were told to help ourselves to water in the bus. After a short 10 minute wait we were off. It was 11:00AM The walk up to the start of the first tower is a tarmac road and is quite steep. There are some hawkers at the side of the road but they were not too bothersome. There is a path at this point that leads up to\\down from tower 5 if you feel you can\'t manage the first part of the walk. There is also a cable car option here as well which cost 60 RMB (IIRC) that goes up to\\down from tower 10 if you feel you can\'t make the complete 22 tower hike (6Km). There is also a short cut from tower 15 to tower 19 if you can\'t make this really tough section. Once on the first Tower our guide had re-iterated turn LEFT! The group broke up into various paces as we went along, the hike is very strenuous and precarious in places. It is not a hike for the unfit. There were some hawkers at various points along the wall but again not too many nor too pushy and a firm but polite \"No\" kept them quiet. The Wall, well, is amazing, the views are incredible and the silence when walking is great as there are few other tourists. The bus was at the pickup point and we all were away by 3PM. On the return journey the guide let me get off at a convenient metro stop instead of going back to the backpackers. Overall a well organised trip to a section of the wall that is still genuine and worth the physical effort.

    It\'s been a memorable experience but a little exhausting. You don\'t need to take too much water because it was really heavy and you don\'t need too much. Take some food! The Wall was magnificent! - Jane

    I stayed at the hostel and joined this tour. It was a fantastic trip and the price is reasonable because we have all the time on the wall. There is no shopping or jade factory at all.

    The trip was really wonderful but it was a little hard for me. You need to take your own food and water. There is no shopping at all and we enjoyed the whole day. But it seems a little far from the city since the bus runs for more than 2 hours. I will highly recommend this trip. Andrew from US
